John Eamer

John Eamer and his wife Louise migrated from England in 1850 aboard the Andromache. John was following the gold rush that was happening at the time, and after some initial success it seems that he gave up gold prospecting by 1854. John had purchased a new property and started selling beer in bulk in 1854 and by 1859 he was planning on starting a winery. By 1866 John had been employed in several office positions and this was taking it's toll on his health which resulted in a minor stroke in September 1866. Johns health improved and in 1869 John Eamer started the Lion Brewery in the suburb of Hackney just east of Adelaide. The brewery probably lasted less than a year and by 1872 John and his wife had moved to Melbourne and setup a series of boarding houses.
